Pull-up a beanbag in the Bendigo Planetarium and enjoy some of the best images the Hubble Space Telescope has taken, as well as finding out how it works and why it was launched in the first place!

Get messy with hands-on experiments in our Lab then sit-back with a cuppa as we explore some mind-bending science with you. Don't forget to bring your grandkids!

Sidewalk Astronomy

bigger-brighter-closerThe Bendigo Planetarium works very closely with the Bendigo District Astronomical Society (BDAS). The partnership has resulted in the introduction of Sidewalk Astronomy nights at Discovery! Every month around the first quarter Moon come and join the astronomy experts and take a look through a telescope at just a few of the amazing celestial objects that adorn the night sky.

Sidewalk Astronomy Night Dates:
Saturday 18th September from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at Dudley House, View St
Friday 15th October 2010, 7:00pm - 8:30pm at the Discovery Science & Technology Centre
Friday 12th November 2010, 7:30pm - 9:00pm at the Discovery Science & Technology Centre
Friday 10th December 2010, 8:00pm - 9:30pm at the Discovery Science & Technology Centre

'Asteroids and Meteorites!'
Trevor Hand from the Astronomical Society of Victoria will take a close look at the difference between asteroids, meteoroids, meteors and meteorites - where they come from, what they're made of and what happens when one hits the Earth! We'll examine some of the early theories of what meteorites were and where some of the best impact sites are. There will also be some objects to see and touch, including some really cool surprises, so make sure you bring along your camera!
When: Wednesday, September 1st, 7.30 pm.
Where: Discovery Science & Technology Centre
Cost: $2.00, $5.00 family.
