'Dare to be different' and bring your students along to the La Trobe University Science and Technology Careers Day on 18 August 2010.

careers-dayNational Science Week 2010 is fast approaching and with it the second official La Trobe University Science and Technology Careers Day, which will be held on 18 August 2010 at Discovery. Our sponsorship partners for this event are La Trobe University and the Australian Government through National Science Week.

This year, the event is going to be even bigger and better with more hands-on presentations from post-graduate and honours students as well as presentations from academics that will offer another impressive line-up of speakers and subjects.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to bring your students - who are either pondering subject choices or career options in science and technology fields - to find out more. The objective of the event is to reinforce that the work involved in studying science and technology subjects, which often have the reputation of being "too hard," is well worth the effort as it opens doors to a plethora of fascinating career choices.

This year, the Careers Day is going to be even better with hands-on workshops as well as presentations from senior academics and/or post graduate students that will cover the following subjects:
-    Mathematics
-    Dentistry and Allied Health
-    General Science
-    Environmental Science and Ecology
-    Information Technology
-    Civil Engineering
-    Nanotechnology
-    Psychology and Neuroscience
-    Pharmacy
-    Science Education

In addition to the short lectures that will be presented in the Discovery Auditorium and the interactive workshops to be carried out in The Lab, there will also be information tables for each of the subject areas where students will be able to find out more information about career paths and correct subject choices.

The interactive workshops are a new addition to the day based on feedback from teachers who brought their students to last year's event ... and we are confident that this will really make the day an inspiring experience for students.

Entrance is FREE and activities will run from 10am-3.15pm.

To book your group in on the day, please contact our bookings office on 5443 8255 and speak to our friendly bookings officer, Kathie Knight. All we need to know is how many students and teachers will be attending and what time you will be arriving and leaving.
