"Our changing world" photography competition

cameraChallenge:
Capture "our changing world". The world changes around us all the time and science helps explain these changes. Examples of our changing world can be something as simple as day turning into night, or as complex as caterpillars becoming butterflies. Be inspired by the changing world around you and share your discovery with us!

 

How to enter:
  1. Take a photo (Size: A4 or 8x12inch) and mount onto a black board which allows for a 50mm border around the photograph.
  2. Add a caption (75 words or less )on a separate sheet of paper which describes how your picture captures "our changing world".
  3. Include your contact name, age, phone number and email address. Don't forget to mention your age so that we know which age category you are entering under.
  4. Pack it all in a reinforced envelope and post it to:
    "Our changing world" Photography Competition
    Discovery Science and Technology Centre;
    7 Railway Place Bendigo 3550 Or, alternatively, deliver it by hand.

Closing date:
The competition will close at 5pm on 11 August 2010. The judges' decision is final.

Please note! All entries will be put on display at Discovery for the duration of National Science Week (14-22 August 2010). If you would prefer that your name not be displayed with your picture, please mark your entry as: "For anonymous display only."

Who can enter?
The competition is open to anyone residing in the Goldfields region with an interest in photography and science. Age categories:

  • 12 and under
  • 13-18
  • 19 and over
How will it be judged?
The photos will be judged on the following characteristics:
  • Artistic appeal
  • Photographic skill; and
  • Scientific relevance

As a result, the judges have been carefully chosen to be able to assess the pictures accordingly. Each judge will mark the photos based on these criteria and the photos with the highest marks in each age category will be announced the winners. The judges include an art gallery curator; a professional photographer and a science academic.

Winners Announced:
Winners will be announced at 12noon on Sat 21 August 2010 at the Discovery Science & Technology Centre.

Prizes:
The winner of each category will recieve a gift voucher to spend at Centro Lansell, Kangaroo Flat.
12 and under category = $100 voucher
13-18 category = $150 voucher
19 & over category = $200 voucher

Rules

  • Photographs may not be manipulated in Photoshop or any other image editing software.
  • Winners may be requested to present proof of age.
